The Global Experience (GE) team has been collaborating with World University Services Canada (WUSC) for many years via the Student Refugee Program (SRP).
This year, our WUSC Local Committee has grown to include a contributing partner, CCSAI, who will be sponsoring their first SRP student this year! Recently Centennial College attended the WUSC International Forum in Ottawa during the weekend of February 8 to10.
GE Intern Misael Santos and SRP Student Ahmad Al Bouchi represented along with CCSAI’s President Ajane Adams, and VP of Downsview campus Sanaa Bayi. They were blown away by WUSC’s sustainable work improving young people’s lives, conversations with past and current SRP students, and the fun educational group activities.
This adventure in Ottawa cemented their belief in WUSC and its future at CCSAI.
“CCSAI as an organization is committed and steadfast in our approach to ensure that we foster a college community built on equity, diversity and inclusion. Sponsoring a student through the SRP aligns with our EDI principles and global citizenship values. It enables us to assist individuals living in unsafe places due to conflict or war while honoring our commitment to equity and inclusion. This initiative not only fosters inclusivity but also cultivates a supportive environment where every student can thrive regardless of financial constraints.” – Sanaa Bayi, Vice President Downsview Campus
“The conference provided us with an excellent opportunity to discuss the future of the Sustainable Development Goals. It was a timely discussion that created a space for the students, members of the academy and leaders to explore and collaborate on finding solutions for achieving greater impact” – Misael Joan Santos, Global Experience Intern
"Attending the WUSC Conference was enlightening as I connected with diverse local communities from other colleges and universities. Meeting students from previous cohorts allowed me to glean valuable insights from their experiences, deepening my understanding of the WUSC process and reinforcing the significance of supporting fellow students in need." - Ahmad Al Bouchi, Student Refugee Program recipient
