On Friday, March 1, the 2024 Global Capstone officially came to a close with a finale featuring five groups pitching their ideas to a panel of industry judges.
The Global Capstone Case Competition is a multi-disciplinary project that brings together students from Tourism, Community Development, Global Business Management & International Business Management to tackle real-world problems with international partners.
Students were organized into diverse teams and given two months to research, understand, and develop solutions to global challenges, culminating in a polished business pitch.
For the 2024 Global Capstone, Centennial College partnered with The Pedro Garcia (@cafe.pedrogarcia on Instagram) coffee-growing community in rural Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This region has been engaged with the College for over a decade, with complementary long-term projects such as initiatives to support coffee exports. CDW, Sustainable Tourism, and Business students worked in inter-professional teams to design socially innovative solutions to development challenges faced by the Pedro Garcia community.
The winning groups are now moving into the next stages, preparing for their trip and field research into this year's destination, the Dominican Republic.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project, including the knowledgeable faculty leads, insightful community partners and judges, and the support from all the Chairs and senior management team, and the Global Experience team for organizing this impactful program.
