Are you a second semester student or higher who wants to make a difference? The Peer Mentor role is essential in supporting first-semester students as they transition into college life. Peer Mentors provide guidance, facilitate weekly mentoring sessions, and serve as role models who help students feel welcomed and informed.  In this role, Peer Mentors build trusting, lasting relationships and encourage students to participate in campus activities and social events, fostering a sense of belonging within the college community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commit to the program for 9 weeks starting the beginning of the semester.
  • Attend mandatory Peer Mentor training.
  • Provide support and guidance to first-semester students, helping them navigate academic, social, and personal transitions.
  • Facilitate weekly virtual Mentoring Sessions that are focused on student needs, addressing challenges, and setting goals.
  • Educate Mentees about essential college services, resources, and support systems available on campus.
  • Encourage engagement and promote active participation in campus events and activities that enhance community building and a sense of belonging.
  • Attend 2-3 Social Events that facilitate relationship-building and community engagement.
  • Foster open, trusting relationships with Mentees while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • A student at Centennial College registered in Winter 2025 semester.
  • A student in semester 2 or higher.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a desire to make a positive impact on others.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to attending all required mentoring sessions and Social Events.
  • Strong awareness of campus resources.
  • Excellent computer skills that include Outlook and Microsoft Teams.

  • Understanding the Peer Mentor/Mentee relationship.
  • Responsibilities and expectations of a Peer Mentor.
  • Program logistics and program overview.
  • Setting boundaries, confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • College Resources and Referrals.
  • Empathy and Active Listening.
  • Time management and problem-solving strategies.
