What is Global Citizenship?

Global Citizenship means taking responsibility for the wellbeing of our communities and our planet, which includes taking action to reduce inequity, to avoid harming others, and to protect our environment. Global citizenship goes hand in hand with equity. Both terms involve taking responsibility to ensure that everyone has equitable opportunities to succeed, which includes access to human rights and the social, economic and political resources necessary; not just to survive but also to thrive.

What are Global Citizenship & Equity (GCE) Outcomes?

As our world becomes increasingly interconnected through globalization, digital technologies and shifting migration patterns, Centennial College is committed to providing an innovative educational experience to ensure you are prepared for the global workforce.

Employers are increasingly expecting job-ready candidates to be able to skillfully navigate across multiple identities, cultures and countries in a globalized economy. At the same time, the public is insisting on greater social accountability and environmental sustainability from local and global businesses.

As a Centennial College student, you are part of a unique academic experience that integrates Global Citizenship and Equity (GCE) learning outcomes directly in your courses through assignments. These outcomes include the following:

  • Identify one’s roles and responsibilities as a global citizen in personal and professional life.
  • Identify beliefs, values and behaviours that form individual and community identities and the basis for respectful relationships.
  • Analyze issues of equity at the personal, professional and global level.
  • Analyze the use of the world’s resources to achieve sustainability and equitable distribution at the personal, professional and global level.
  • Identify and challenge unjust practices in local and global systems.
  • Support personal and social responsibility initiatives at the local, national and global level.

Upon completion of their program of study, students will receive a GCE notation on their transcript indicating completion of the Global Citizenship & Equity skills.

How can GCE advance my career?
