Centennial College’s School of Apprenticeships offers educational apprenticeship training in Post-secondary, Modified Apprenticeship and Traditional Apprenticeship programs. Our Post-secondary programs focus on technical, theoretical and on-the-job, optional paid Co-op training.
Three Ways to Become an Apprentice
Option 1
Start in a high school co-op as an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) student. You can even complete your Level 1 at Centennial College in your grade 12 year then get hired after graduation.
Option 2
Complete a Centennial College Certificate or Co-op Diploma program and get hired as an apprentice after graduation. Review our Co-op Programs.
Option 3
Get a job in the trades and have your employer register you as an apprentice.

How To Become A Registered Apprentice – Motive Power Programs
- Possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (such as a Diploma)
- Complete all in-school Ministry required training (all 3 levels)
- Submit your completed and signed Apprenticeship Training Standard Log Book
- Provide your Certificate of Apprenticeship
- Be in good standing with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development
After all of the above are completed, the Ministry will inform you to write your Certification of Qualifications Exam.
How to Achieve Accreditation Towards the Issue of an Ame License –Aviation Programs
In order to obtain a Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License, applicants must meet the requirements outlined in the Transport Canada Licensing standard. One of the requirements for license issue is the successful completion of “basic training”. Centennial’s Aviation Technician and Technology programs meet this requirement and provide students with both experience and technical examination credit towards the issue of an AME licence.
In order to be eligible for this credit (or “accreditation”) students are required to obtain a 70% in each course, maintain 95% attendance throughout their program and complete all required practical tasks (mandatory projects). Students that achieve accreditation receive an 18-month experience credit towards the total experience requirement (48 months as a learner) for licence issue, are exempt from writing the Transport Canada technical licensing examinations and only need to write the Canadian Aviation Regulations exam. The majority of industry employers prefer to hire students who have obtained accreditation into “apprentice” (aka technicians) positions.
International Students
As an international student at Centennial College’s School of Apprenticeships department, you will be getting an excellent education in technical training, in our Motive Power Certificate or Diploma programs. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for a work permit.
