Growing up, I didn’t have the language to describe my gender expression. All my friends knew I was queer, but it wasn’t something we talked about openly. As a result, I didn’t understand myself, and had trouble understanding others in relation to me. Allowing myself to explore my gender identity saved my life. I owe so much to my chosen family; queer and trans friendships are immensely important in my life. I am grateful to be in a country, city, and college that supports and celebrates queer identities; coming out as transmasculine and pursuing gender affirming care is the best thing that's ever happened to me.
