The Innovation, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Healing Portfolio contributes and or coordinates a number of institutional decision-making and advisory bodies. We have listed just a few in our this section. In addition, we provide ad hoc advice to any individual member of the college on matters coming within our mandate.
The mandate of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) forum is to provide important operational and strategic information to academic leaders (administrators) and deliver academic leadership learning and development. IIRH has permanent membership at ALT through the Director Global Citizenship Education and the Associate Vice-President is a frequent guest.
Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the College is required to establish an accessibility committee, mandated to coordinate and ensure regulatory accountability for the College’s response to the AODA standards including those relating to Customer Service, Built Environment, Employment, and Information and Communication. Chaired by the Accessibility and UDL Lead, the Committee currently consists of seventeen members who represent divisions across the institution.
Established by the Centennial College Board of Governors, College Council serves as a forum for students, faculty, and staff to make recommendations and approve curriculum, curriculum development, and other academic related decision-making. College Council also sits as an advisory body to the President on matters falling within its mandate. The College’s Board of Governors is responsible for ensuring that the structure, composition, terms of reference and procedures for the council are maintained through by-laws. IIRH maintains a permanent presence through the Director, GCE and the Associate Vice-President serves as a frequent guest.
The College’s Sexual Violence Task Force (SVTF), formerly the College’s Sexual Violence Prevention Working Group (SVPWG), is responsible for annual and independent reporting to the College’s Board of Governors and to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Centennial College will provide an annual report to its Board of Governors on or before June 1st. For transparency purposes, the Ministry asks that Centennial College makes the report to the Board publicly available, and share the report with the Ministry. The College’s SVTF is established to:
- Provide ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness of Centennial College’s Sexual Violence Policy, including compliance with government direction and legislation applicable to the postsecondary sector. Facilitate updates to the policy as required;
- Assess campus climate and student and employee needs in relation to sexual violence supports, prevention, and education activities, using a combination of institutional reporting metrics, climate surveys, benchmarking surveys, and broader research / literature;
- Develop multi-year plans and set strategic priorities at the institutional level with regard to: a. Sexual violence prevention and education activities for students and employees; b. Establish effective, confidential, and trauma-informed supports for members of the campus community impacted by sexual and gender-based violence; c. Monitor accessibility and effectiveness of formal reporting mechanisms for students and employees who report sexual and gender-based violence to the College.
- Provide annual reports to the College Board of Governors, by June of each year. Beginning in 2022, this will include the establishment of a multi-year action plan stemming from the SVTF’s work. Future annual reports will focus on progress toward implementing multi-year strategic priorities.
The College is committed to increasing the employment opportunities for students from marginalized communities, including individuals with disabilities. A working group was assembled to develop activities and initiatives that would support and enhance positive employment outcomes for the identified groups. The SEOSD acts in an advisory capacity to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) department to fulfill the following objectives:
- Enhance the employability support and preparation processes for students with disabilities at Centennial College.
- Increase employer engagement, outreach and programming that is specific to the employment needs and career aspirations of students with disabilities.
- Obtain a comprehensive understanding of the employability needs of Centennial College students with disabilities.
There are currently six members in this group representing graduates, faculty, staff, and administrators from the curricular and co-curricular areas of the College.
The Advisory Group counsels College leadership and provides advice on the development of strategies and initiatives that assist in the implementation of a Universal Design in Learning (UDL) approach to operations across divisions at the institution. Twenty-eight faculty, staff and administrator members actively engage the community in this work. To find out more about how the College is integrating UDL, please go to the UDL Webpage.
