Joyce Tsui

Faculty, Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program

Joyce is a nursing faculty member in the Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at Centennial College and a PhD Candidate at York University.  Joyce also has experience teaching in various nursing programs at Centennial College, including Practical Nursing, RPN to RN Bridging to University, and Pre-Health programs. Joyce identifies herself as a cis-gendered Asian woman and a first-generation immigrant. She is grateful to reside and make a home for her family in Tkaronto, now known as Toronto, located on the traditional territory of many first peoples, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.

Joyce’s clinical background is in the area of gerontological nursing. She has worked primarily in the long-term care sector and various roles such as a point of care nurse, a unit leader, a behavioural support outreach nurse, and an interprofessional nurse educator. Joyce also had experience working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care as a Nurse Classifier. Joyce was also involved in supporting the implementation of the electronic healthcare documentation system as a Project Support Specialist in a healthcare agency in the Greater Toronto Area. 

Joyce is actively involved in various research projects that support nursing students' educational journey. She is experienced in leading and collaborating on different research projects in the area of virtual gaming simulation, examining students' sense of belonging, and, most recently, her dissertation research focuses on students' mental health and access to academic accommodation.

Joyce’s teaching philosophy is based on co-creating and supporting experiential learning and teaching techniques to foster active engagement. Joyce values the opportunity to apply Universal Design for Learning and uses various modalities to support learning to meet diverse learners’ needs. As a faculty member, Joyce strives to create a supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking and promotes an inclusive space to support students to achieve their full potential.
