Steve graduated from Centennial College’s Advanced Biotechnology program in 2002. While enrolled at Centennial College, he began his professional career through the Cooperative Education program. He held the position of Quality Control Supervisor at Kisko Freezies for an extended 12-month placement, and an additional 4 months Kraft Foods. After graduating he continued in his QC role with Kraft, before joining Apotex Pharmaceuticals in 2003 as an In-Process Quality Assurance Supervisor. Steve will always be grateful for the opportunities Centennial College opened the doors to and helping him establish the start of his professional career.
After graduating from the University of Western Sydney with a Bachelor’s of Science in 2005, he joined bioMérieux as an Account Manager, providing automated microbiology diagnostic solutions to Canada’s food and beverage industry in Ontario, British Columba, Alberta, and Manitoba. During this time, he was a member of Centennial College’s Biotechnology Program Advisory Committee and became part-time faculty, teaching courses in microbiology and chemistry. He went on to develop and deliver new courses in the Food Science Technology program in 2010. During the same time Steve was the Business Development Manager for environmental analytical services at AGAT Laboratories. Steve went on to continue to teach in Centennial College’s Biotechnology and Food Science programs, while completing his Masters of Science from the University of Guelph, in Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
After graduating with his MSc in 2013, Steve joined the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) as a Food Safety Advisor, and then as a Business Development Specialist, all while supporting small and medium size enterprises in the food and beverage industry across Ontario.
Steve joined Centennial College in 2014 as Chair of Applied Biological and Environmental Science (ABES) in the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science (SETAS). He currently oversees the Biotechnology, Environmental, Food Science, Biomedical Engineering, and Medical Laboratory programs. Steve’s vision for ABES is to be a leader in applied science education and research, preparing students for their future careers by providing them with the skills and knowledge for success. By doing so, helping ensure that Ontario has a skilled workforce that is necessary for economic and social advancement.
