National AccessAbility Week

According to the data provided by the Government of Canada in 2022, approximately 6.2 million Canadians over the age of 15 years identify as having at least one disability. National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to 1) recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions and leadership that Canadians with disabilities have made to society, 2) promote the work that society has made towards inclusion, and 3) reflect on the ongoing efforts on accessibility and inclusion. This year, National AccessAbility Week will take place from May 28 to June 3, 2023.

Attitudinal discrimination and behaviors can be some of the hardest obstacles to overcome when creating inclusive environments for diverse and marginalized populations, including persons with disabilities. Come join us as we welcome Aaron Merry to the Centennial College community. He self-identifies as a person with Epilepsy. Aaron will engage us in an interactive discussion as he describes his lived experiences with the impairment with an emphasis on the attitudinal barriers and discrimination that he has encountered. He will focus his discussion in the context of the higher education and work environment. Within his narrative, he will address the unique strategies that he has used to overcome these barriers.

Registration for this event will be open until May 29 at 12 pm.
