School’s almost done for the winter, and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to some much-needed time off. Have you thought about what you’re going to be doing during your break? After getting some much-needed rest, it’s time to enjoy all that this time of year has to offer. No matter what you celebrate, there are many ways to enjoy the city and the season, even during COVID-19. Here are a few ways to make the most of your winter break.
1. Get a nice Toronto meal
These days, most Toronto restaurants, even the fancy ones, have take-out options, the better to keep you safely (yet fancily) fed. There are hundreds of restaurants in Toronto that offer either a Christmas-themed meal or a delicious year-round special. If you’re looking for somewhere new to try, go over to BlogTO and see their numerous rankings of restaurants in Toronto, along with the kind of service they offer.
2. Do some winter activities
It’s cold, but if you bundle up, the great outdoors is waiting for you. You can skate at Nathan Phillips Square, right in the heart of Toronto, rent skates, and even winter gear if you need it. Too far to travel? Tons of other outdoor rinks are waiting for you. Check out the city’s official list. Or if you want something a bit less formal and a bit more rough-and-tumble, try one of the city’s Tobogganing Hills. Or do something even more unusual, like snowshoeing. There’s a full list of outdoor winter activities on the city’s website.
3. Visit a Winter Market
Some people have a yearly tradition of going to a market during the holidays to get fresh, artisan food for themselves, or for gifts. Whether you have been to one already, or want to experience it for the first time, there are many markets in Toronto to visit, pandemic-safe thanks to outdoor venues. The more-known ones include the Kensington Market, the Distillery Winter Village market, and the historic St. Lawrence Market (which even has home delivery!).
4. Go see Wonderland
This year, Canada’s Wonderland will be hosting a WinterFest that will take place until December 31, 2021. The amusement park will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland full of holiday cheer. There will be lights and décor, world-class live entertainment, savoury treats and fanciful experiences, and best of all, it’s an outdoor venue.
5. Prepare for the new semester
Start your holiday off right by throwing away what you don’t need, and decluttering your space. It’ll clear your mind, and put you in a holiday mindset. Plus, it’s better to go through all of your school papers, clothes and belongings, and clear space before returning for a new semester.
