At Centennial College, we focus on giving you the skills to make you career-ready. But have you thought about what career path you’ll take after graduation? We help you build the skills you’ll need to succeed, but it’s up to you to get the ball rolling before school is finished. Do you know what steps to take to reach your career goals? If not, you’re not alone, but we can help. Join us for Career Week, a part of National Career Month, beginning November 6 with the Educational Pathways Fair, followed by a full week of events November 11-15. Here’s how you can get the most out of it, and use what’s there to aid in your career development.
Find the events that fit you
The purpose of Career Week is to provide you with the tools and job skills to take charge of your career development plan, while giving you space to check out different career paths. We help you do this through interactive events, workshops, and opportunities for networking (more on that later). You’re there to look at the progress you’ve made, while exploring future career options. Each event provides practical insights, connects you with industry experts, and offers tools for making informed decisions about your career goals.
Events include:
- The Educational Pathways Fair, taking place on November 6 at the Progress Campus Hospitality Building Event Centre, where you can learn about pursuing further education at Centennial College, or other schools, if that’s your goal.
- Webinars running from November 11-15, including topics like “What Career Paths are a Good Fit for Me?,” “Mastering the Post-Graduate Work Permit,” “Intro to Skilled Trades,” “Exploring Careers in Nuclear Energy,” and more. Check the schedule for the full list.
- Another important webinar takes place Monday, November 11, called “Identifying Job Scams.” It’s a session that teaches you how to protect yourself from employment fraud—an important topic in today’s job market.
Network, Network, Network!
Finally, there’s an exclusive, in-person event on Thursday, November 14th at our Progress Campus Event Centre – the CCSAI Alumni and Student Networking Night. This is your opportunity to connect with industry experts and successful Centennial alumni who have navigated their own career paths. Dive into meaningful conversations, gain insider tips on transitioning from school to the workforce, and explore your career possibilities.
But that’s not all! To help you make a lasting impression, we’ll have a LinkedIn Photobooth on-site, where you can get a professional headshot for your online profile.
Make the most of networking, both at the in-person events and during any of the online sessions throughout Career Week. Remember to actively engage in each discussion, ask questions, exchange contact info with the industry pros and alumni, and don’t forget to follow up! These connections can help you build a strong professional network for your future.
Look into things you don’t think you need
Even if you think an event doesn’t apply to you, think about checking it out anyway. You never know what you’re going to need in your career, and Career Week is a good time to be open-minded and curious. Go career cruising for pathways outside of where you thought your career planning would take you!
Make sure you sign up!
Before anything else, make sure you’re registered for the events you want to attend. Have a look at our detailed event schedule, and sign up ahead of time on ExperienceCentennial. By the end of the week, you’ll have had the chance to reflect on what you’ve learned, and have taken steps towards future career success.
Take a shot at winning some prizes!
In advance of Career Week, our Career Services and Co-op Education department’s Instagram Page @cccareer_coop is running a special contest, where you could win one of four $50 gift cards.
To take part, follow their Instagram page, and then share your thoughts on what “Career Success” means to you in the comments, using the hashtag #CareerWeekCC, before sharing your content post on your own story. On November 22, we’ll randomly select the winners. It’s just a little extra boost to help you start your career journey right!
