Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Student Event

Please join us for the Eighth Fire’s first-ever Orange Shirt Day Learner Gathering on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as we come together to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through reflection, learning, culture, connection and community. Please note that this event is open only to students. Employees are encouraged to refer to the programming offered by CFDTI.
We will begin our morning in Auntie’s Kitchen with light refreshments and an opportunity to take a self-guided walk-through of an exhibit created by our Indigenous Cultural Guide, Maureen Hearns.
Our Knowledge Keeper in Residence, Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Akiwenzie, alongside her helper and son, Keesis Nadjiwon, will help us begin the day in a good way by leading a traditional opening, followed by a sharing and circle.
We will then come together for an hour of drumming and singing with our regular drum lead, Kayla Sutherland. Following the drum circle, we will return to Auntie’s Kitchen for lunch and an opportunity to connect, visit and spend time together as a Centennial community.
Please wear an orange shirt in recognition of Orange Shirt Day. If you don’t have an orange shirt, the Centennial College Bookstore will have orange shirts available for purchase throughout September.

Please note that registration for this event will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will be capped at 60 student registrants.
