Help us build a legacy for a brighter future
With June now upon us, the Centennial College community is celebrating the start of both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month.
Each year, these weeks offer an important opportunity to reflect on the histories and legacies of our vibrant, diverse Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. It is also a time to consider how each of us can play a role in elevating Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ voices, stories and contributions as we collectively work toward a future of justice and equity for all.
Announcing the Joseph McQuabbie Memorial Scholarship Fund
This year, in recognition of National Indigenous History Month, Centennial College has chosen to support a scholarship fund to honour a very special member of our community who passed away last fall: Joseph McQuabbie, our long-time Indigenous Outreach Coordinator.
Joseph’s death was a profound loss to the Centennial community. A proud Anishinaabe, Joseph was deeply devoted to teaching the history of the First Peoples and guiding Centennial’s journey of reconciliation. He also provided invaluable insights and recommendations that helped form the vision of the Progress Campus’ A-Block expansion project, which will be based around principles of Indigenous design and knowledge and will reflect the teachings and perspectives that Joseph continually brought to Centennial.
The Joseph McQuabbie Memorial Scholarship Fund will create an enduring legacy in Joseph’s memory. Supporting the studies of Indigenous students each year, the scholarship will contribute to the success of generations of First Nations, Métis and Inuit young people capable of changing the world.
Join us in honouring Joseph’s legacy
As a valued member of Centennial’s community, we would like to invite you to make a special contribution to the Joseph McQuabbie Memorial Scholarship Fund as we mark the start of National Indigenous History Month. Your gift will create a meaningful tribute to a man who profoundly transformed Centennial’s journey of reconciliation and Indigenization, and whose teachings, strength, humour and care changed countless lives.
To donate today, please click here or contact Linda Barlow at lbarlow@centennialcollege.ca or 416-289-5000, ext. 8849, or Sandra Harris at sharris@centennialcollege.ca or 647-403-9716.
I am delighted to share that all contributions will be matched by Centennial College up to a total of $15,000 – meaning the impact of your gift will be doubled.
Thank you so much for your generous support. We are deeply grateful for your consideration to join us in honouring Joseph’s legacy and building on his vision of peace, wisdom and understanding.
