The Centennial Colts administration, coaches, staff, and most critically, our student-athletes stand united with the rest of 25 OCAA members and the OUA in the right to play.
Over the last 21 months, our student-athletes have demonstrated incredible resiliency in the face of constant lockdowns. Despite these challenges, they continue to excel not only on the playing field but in the classroom and in their communities.
Our department has witnessed firsthand the damaging impact that cancelling athletics and recreation programming has had on the health and well-being of our student-athletes.
Sport is a key driver for many students across Ontario, helping them maintain social connections, develop new skills, and create a healthy lifestyle. These are necessary tools for their development, not only as students but as professionals entering the workforce in the near future.
There have already been too many milestones lost for many of our student-athletes, and by restricting play, we do a disservice to all of the sacrifices they have already made up to this point.
Like many of our fellow OCAA members, the Centennial Colts have gone above and beyond provincial measures to ensure that varsity games take place safely, and we will continue to do so to ensure the safety of our administration, therapy team, coaching staff, and student-athletes.
As one of the most ethnically diverse colleges in the country, we know that sport can be a bridge between cultures, and we will continue to use our platform to advocate for a reasonable solution to complete the 2021-2022 Varsity Season.
