Starting classes at Centennial College this fall? Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, most of our programming is online, but we will be having limited in-class labs. You’re probably going to be learning from home most of the time, and we require students to stay off-campus whenever possible.
However, our campuses are open to those students who have lab or studio instruction in their timetables, provided everyone follows our re-entry procedures, which you can read more about here. If you’re coming to campus, here’s a quick and easy guide to what’s open, what’s closed and what’s online, so you can plan your trips effectively.
Residence is open for student living
First of all, you can continue to live at Progress Campus. Centennial Place is open for Fall 2020, with a special move-in process designed to minimize contact between students and staff.
The parking gates are up!
If you need to drive to campus, you won’t have to pay to park your car. Rather than charging for parking passes, our college campus parking lots are free to use by students and employees during the Fall 2020 semester.
The Local Café and Restaurant is closed
The Local Café and Restaurant at Progress Campus will remain closed for the Fall 2020 semester. We’ll be making preparations to re-open in Winter 2021, conditions pending, though.
Tim Hortons is open and campus vending machines are restocked
While The Local may be closed, you can still grab a bite from our handy Tim Hortons outlets at Progress, Ashtonbee and Morningside campuses. And all campus vending machines have been restocked with fresh snack items you can buy anytime.
Microwave ovens are available for use
If you’ve brought food to campus and need to heat it up, microwave ovens are available for your use in the cafeteria. To keep things safe, there will be signage posted around the microwave ovens to remind students and employees to sanitize before and after use.
Alternative Prayer Rooms are open
Our current carpeted prayer rooms are closed. However, non-carpeted classrooms will be used instead, and individuals are being asked to bring their own prayer mats.
A convenient way to access Library resources is waiting for you.
This fall our Library is offering a special “Grab and Go” pick-up service at each campus for physical library materials, such as books and technology. Continue to access all of the Libraries' online resources from the Library website. Live support is available through our online chat service, email and phone.
Our Bookstore offers Curbside Pick-Up
Our college bookstores are open for online sales only, but to keep things convenient, we’re now offering a contactless curbside pick-up option as an alternative to shipping books to you. To ensure the health and safety of the community, there will be specific campus pick-up points and procedures prepared.
Device Loan Program Drop-offs begin
If you borrowed a Chromebook or laptop device through our device loan program, you are now able to return them to Progress Campus’s L-Block entrance. More details will be emailed to everyone who has a loaner device.
IELTS Test Centre Re-Opening
IELTS testing is taking place at a reduced capacity as of September 5. The testing centres will be open for students with appropriate safety procedures in place.
Assessment Centre for Centennial Students moves online
The School of Advancement Assessment Centre will operate online from September to December 2020.
Lockers for labs
If you have an on-campus lab in your timetable, you’ll have access to day lockers when you return to campus.
Athletics & Recreation is closed
All athletic facilities, including your campus gym or workout facility, will stay closed. Varsity sports have been suspended for the fall. In October, we will determine if a Winter sports season will be held. In the meantime, if you’re still looking to get fit, your Student Association (CCSAI) is streaming live instructional fitness classes on YouTube and Instagram. Check out their schedule on the CCSAI website, on Instagram at awc.ccsai, and on YouTube at AWC Fitness.
