Centennial College’s Police and Public Safety Foundations students earned first place overall at the Second Annual York Regional Police Service Fitness and Report Writing Challenge, finishing ahead of six other Police Foundations teams from across Ontario. The competition assessed students in physical fitness and report writing, with Centennial earning the highest combined score across all events to claim the gold medal championship.

Six students represented Centennial College: Alex McColgan, Vladislav Paljanov, Isaac Miiro, Feteson Destilus, Nargis Zamani and Shohana Meharin.

Putting policing skills to the test

The challenge combined four physical fitness assessments with two scenario-based report-writing exercises.

The fitness events included the Prep Test, 20-metre shuttle run, maximum push-ups and sit-and-reach test. The report-writing component required students to respond to police-related scenarios, simulate investigations and prepare detailed incident reports reflecting professional policing standards.

The overall results were based on performance across the competition’s events, with Centennial achieving the highest combined score among the seven participating college teams.

Individual achievement and teamwork

Centennial student Isaac Miiro recorded the highest shuttle run score of the day, achieving 12.5.
Beyond their performance, the students represented Centennial and the Police and Public Safety Foundations program with professionalism, character and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Fitness Professor Jesse Cook mentored the students during their preparation and attended the event to support and encourage them. His guidance helped the team prepare for the physical and academic demands of the challenge.

Building skills for the future

Centennial’s gold medal finish reflects the students’ commitment to preparation, discipline and developing the physical and intellectual skills needed for careers in policing and public safety.
