Summary

The Other Side of Church Street is a five-part conversational series from the Centennial College Black Student Collective, in collaboration with CCSAI, that looks at the experiences of Black queer people in Toronto. Church Street is widely celebrated as the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ community, but for many Black queer people, racism, exclusion, and inequity complicate that sense of pride and belonging.

Hosted primarily by Betty Achom, the series brings together student leaders, advocates, and educators, including Sam Egworefa, Ajane Adams, Dr. Andrew B. Campbell (Dr. ABC), and Logan Routher, for honest, intimate conversations about identity, community, anti-Black racism, power, privilege, and oppression. By centering lived experience, the series names the barriers that still exist within queer spaces and broader society while also making room for resilience and joy.
