Applicants must be employed by either a Toyota or Lexus Dealership. Applicants must secure employment with a Toyota Canada dealership and then register as MAP apprentice with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development and Skilled Trades Ontario.

The Automotive Service Technician Toyota TDAP (MAP 32) program has been designed for existing or new Toyota/Lexus dealer apprentices.

During your time in the program, you'll alternate between in-school lessons and paid apprenticeship work terms at your Toyota/Lexus dealer every four weeks — for a total of 32 weeks of schooling and 32 weeks of work placement.

At the School of Transportation's state-of-the-art Ashtonbee Campus facilities, you'll:

Learn from the traditional apprenticeship curriculum and receive additional training on Toyota/Lexus products description, operation, diagnostics and repair;
Explore electronics and gain further knowledge in diagnosing computerized control systems;
Gain hands-on practice on Toyota vehicles and components in fully-equipped automotive labs, which will give you an edge when you enter the market;
Gain the technical skills to embark on a career as an Automotive Service Technician.

Program Overview

Your time in the program alternates between Centennial and your Canadian Tire employer for paid apprenticeship work terms (64 weeks total). You may be eligible for employment insurance during the in-class training and will receive pay from your Canadian Tire employer during the apprenticeship.

Alignment and Brakes Technician

The Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship will offer you excellent working knowledge of Alignment, Suspension and Brake systems. An Alignment and Brake Technician inspects, diagnoses, and repairs electrical/electronic controls, suspension systems and frames, braking systems, tires, wheels, hubs and axles, and alignments. To be eligible for the Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship program, you must currently be employed as an apprentice. An Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship includes two levels of theoretical and practical training which must be successfully completed.

Motorcycle and Powersports Product Repair Techniques

Whether or not you have previous experience, the Motorcycle and Powersports Product Repair Techniques program prepares you to fix and to keep motorcycles, quads, snowmobiles, ATVs, and more running at peak performance. That knowledge is your gateway to becoming a motorcycle and power sports industry leader.Spend 60 per cent of your time learning theory and techniques of diagnostic skills, welding, and mechanical and electrical systems as well as workplace practices. To refine your skills, you train in well-equipped labs and have the opportunity to use online manufacturer parts and service systems. This program is based on the Small Engine and Level 1 Motorcycle Technician 310G apprenticeship curriculum, so you are able to apply credits toward your 310G apprenticeship requirement.

Automotive Fundamentals

Automotive Fundamentals prepares you to work in both large and small organizations: dealerships, service and repair shops, retail stores, and more. Completing the program accredits you with Level 1 of the Automotive Service Technician 310S in-school apprenticeship training. You learn to identify basic motive power system problems; inspect and test basic motive power components and systems; and use a variety of test equipment to support vehicle transportation systems. Students will also take an electric vehicle course focusing on safety, high voltage, and system architecture. Studying in our labs, gain knowledge of safe working practices using machinery, tools, and equipment. Your training is rounded out with the ability to perform customer service functions and to apply the basic communication, documentation, information technology, and computer skills to support a motive power environment.

Automotive - Motive Power Technician (Optional Co-op)

Organizations as widely varied as automotive makers and dealers, retail companies, and insurance corporations need professionals with Automotive – Motive Power Technician training.The trade-relevant skills and knowledge you gain in this program highlight motor vehicle technology, while practical application of technology in our lab facilities helps you to effectively diagnose and repair vehicles. Before graduation, you have the option to experience the real world as a paid employee through a one-term summer co-op.When you graduate, in addition to your diploma, you are accredited with levels 1 and 2 of Automotive Service Technician 310S apprenticeship in-school training. In addition to the levels, this program offers two electric vehicle courses as well as an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate. Your well-rounded education sets you up for long-term success.

Automotive Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship

Use this tuition-free, Government of Ontario-funded program as a transition step to finding an apprenticeship. Within 33 weeks, complete the requirements for Level 1 of the in-school 310S apprenticeship curriculum and paid work placement, while getting Canadian on-the-job experience. Delivered in three phases, the program’s first 12 weeks cover introductory skills such as job readiness, workplace communications, technical writing, and math. Phase 2 introduces Automotive Service Technician Level 1 topics (engines, fuels, electrical, suspension, steering, powertrain, brakes). You end the program with an industry placement, and the confidence to get ahead.

Automotive Service Technician General Motors of Canada ASEP

With specific training on the latest General Motors (GM) vehicle systems, emphasizing diagnosis and repair following recommended GM service procedures, become prepared for work on the company’s vehicles and beyond. In specially outfitted automotive labs, this program’s more in-depth training, compared to a traditional apprenticeship, develops your technical expertise in electronics and management system diagnosing. Training is delivered in eight four-week blocks, for 32 weeks. Your education is divided between Centennial and your dealer for paid apprenticeship work terms (64 weeks total). During in-school training, you may be eligible for employment insurance. Once you finish both components, you receive up to 21 GM Dealer Technician training credits — and you are prepared to take a leadership role in any workplace.

While in school, you may qualify for income support through Employment Insurance Canada benefits or training allowance. The actual duration of this program will be determined by how quickly you acquire on-the-job competencies.

Alignment and Brakes Technician

The Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship will offer you excellent working knowledge of Alignment, Suspension and Brake systems. An Alignment and Brake Technician inspects, diagnoses, and repairs electrical/electronic controls, suspension systems and frames, braking systems, tires, wheels, hubs and axles, and alignments. To be eligible for the Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship program, you must currently be employed as an apprentice. An Alignment and Brakes Technician apprenticeship includes two levels of theoretical and practical training which must be successfully completed.

Motorcycle and Powersports Product Repair Techniques

Whether or not you have previous experience, the Motorcycle and Powersports Product Repair Techniques program prepares you to fix and to keep motorcycles, quads, snowmobiles, ATVs, and more running at peak performance. That knowledge is your gateway to becoming a motorcycle and power sports industry leader.Spend 60 per cent of your time learning theory and techniques of diagnostic skills, welding, and mechanical and electrical systems as well as workplace practices. To refine your skills, you train in well-equipped labs and have the opportunity to use online manufacturer parts and service systems. This program is based on the Small Engine and Level 1 Motorcycle Technician 310G apprenticeship curriculum, so you are able to apply credits toward your 310G apprenticeship requirement.

Automotive Fundamentals

Automotive Fundamentals prepares you to work in both large and small organizations: dealerships, service and repair shops, retail stores, and more. Completing the program accredits you with Level 1 of the Automotive Service Technician 310S in-school apprenticeship training. You learn to identify basic motive power system problems; inspect and test basic motive power components and systems; and use a variety of test equipment to support vehicle transportation systems. Students will also take an electric vehicle course focusing on safety, high voltage, and system architecture. Studying in our labs, gain knowledge of safe working practices using machinery, tools, and equipment. Your training is rounded out with the ability to perform customer service functions and to apply the basic communication, documentation, information technology, and computer skills to support a motive power environment.

Automotive - Motive Power Technician (Optional Co-op)

Organizations as widely varied as automotive makers and dealers, retail companies, and insurance corporations need professionals with Automotive – Motive Power Technician training.The trade-relevant skills and knowledge you gain in this program highlight motor vehicle technology, while practical application of technology in our lab facilities helps you to effectively diagnose and repair vehicles. Before graduation, you have the option to experience the real world as a paid employee through a one-term summer co-op.When you graduate, in addition to your diploma, you are accredited with levels 1 and 2 of Automotive Service Technician 310S apprenticeship in-school training. In addition to the levels, this program offers two electric vehicle courses as well as an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate. Your well-rounded education sets you up for long-term success.

Automotive Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship

Use this tuition-free, Government of Ontario-funded program as a transition step to finding an apprenticeship. Within 33 weeks, complete the requirements for Level 1 of the in-school 310S apprenticeship curriculum and paid work placement, while getting Canadian on-the-job experience. Delivered in three phases, the program’s first 12 weeks cover introductory skills such as job readiness, workplace communications, technical writing, and math. Phase 2 introduces Automotive Service Technician Level 1 topics (engines, fuels, electrical, suspension, steering, powertrain, brakes). You end the program with an industry placement, and the confidence to get ahead.

Automotive Service Technician General Motors of Canada ASEP

With specific training on the latest General Motors (GM) vehicle systems, emphasizing diagnosis and repair following recommended GM service procedures, become prepared for work on the company’s vehicles and beyond. In specially outfitted automotive labs, this program’s more in-depth training, compared to a traditional apprenticeship, develops your technical expertise in electronics and management system diagnosing. Training is delivered in eight four-week blocks, for 32 weeks. Your education is divided between Centennial and your dealer for paid apprenticeship work terms (64 weeks total). During in-school training, you may be eligible for employment insurance. Once you finish both components, you receive up to 21 GM Dealer Technician training credits — and you are prepared to take a leadership role in any workplace.

Automotive Service Technician Co-op partnered with MVRO and FCA

In two years, earn an Ontario College Diploma and an Ozone Depletion Prevention certificate; experience eight months of paid on-the-job co-op training at a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)- or Motor Vehicle Retailers of Ontario (MVRO)- sponsored dealership and complete levels 1 and 2 of the Automotive Service Technician 310S apprenticeship in-school training. For the first eight months, study product descriptions, operations, diagnostics, and repair as they apply to the apprenticeship curriculum. This program includes two courses dedicated to electric and hybrid vehicles to prepare students for modernized repair facilities. Additional courses in advanced diagnostics, business management, customer service, and general education are also included. As an MVRO- or FCA-partnered dealership Co-op student, you must complete an eight-month paid work term before returning to school for a final eight months.

Auto Body Repair Technician

An advanced career in the auto body industry is possible with training from this program, which is based on levels 1 and 2 apprenticeship curricula with valuable additions that result in a diploma.The program’s combination of theory and practical applications offer the foundational learning requirements to be a successful auto body technician. It also gives the insight of correct practices and procedures in the body shop for business owners that plan on running a collision repair shop. Auto Body Repair Technician courses cover theory and application of vehicle and body construction, detailing and refinishing equipment maintenance, applied mechanical systems, and refinishing surface preparation and top coat application in a modern auto body lab.
