Acting for Writers and Directors

Description

The course will provide students with an opportunity to explore the complexities of the acting process through a practical interaction with the actors’ craft as it relates to film and television work. They will discover how actors approach a script, the process they use to prepare for an audition, and how they work to craft a performance on camera. The course will familiarize students with the vocabulary of acting, and concepts such as units, actions, objectives, motivation, subtext and ways these tools of analysis can enhance the writer's and director's work. The class will use theatre exercises, improvisation, and short scenes to explore the performer's craft and develop an enhanced appreciation for acting.

Prerequisites

  • Earn a minimum grade of C in each of the following:
    • RT–207: Filmmaking 2
    • RT–214: Screenwriting 1
