Description

Environmental Health (45 hours)
This course will discuss the current environmental and health risks resulting from global population growth, consumer-based economic activity, the production of waste and a world-wide unprecedented demand for energy and resources that now threaten public health, environmental stabilization and global life support systems.  Students will examine the short and long-term health consequences of environmental degradation through an investigation of global environmental health issues and their causes, the scientific evidence and controversy behind global climate change, key environmental frameworks, government reports, and international protocols.  A particular emphasis will be placed on the power of consumer clout and the significant role that responsible eco-citizens, consumer groups and wellness practitioners can play in addressing public health issues and resource exploitation.
