Power Generation 1

Description
This intensive power generation course is the first of 2 courses that lays the foundation of the knowledge of the power generation industry. The course introduces students to the principles and applications of the 2 major thermodynamic power cycles, the Rankine Cycle and the Brayton Cycle. The course starts by reviewing gas laws, thermodynamic and electrical concepts. There is an introduction to the types and characteristics of electrical power generators, as well as to steam turbines and gas turbines. Nuclear power is introduced through the basic physics, followed by an overview of the different types of nuclear reactors. The course ends with Otto and Diesel cycles and their applications to piston engines. The course emphasizes integration principles, applications, labs and worked examples to reinforce learned concepts and build appropriate skills.
