The Centennial Talks Program is a service offered through the Centre for Accessible Learning & Counselling services. Centennial students can book an appointment with a Peer Supporter as a way to get support and feel heard. If you’re feeling sad, lonely, want to vent about something on your mind or just want to get to know more about the mental health support at Centennial, you can book a 30-minute session with any of the five Peer Supporters. Sessions are completely confidential unless the student is a danger to themselves, others, or there is suspected abuse or neglect involving a minor.
Peer Supporters use their lived experience to support students who are going through a difficult time. Our Peer Support approach is rooted in mutuality and is an alternative to medical and psychiatric approaches to mental health. They are there to listen to your problems, so you feel safe, heard, and validated. Peer Supporters can support you in developing coping strategies and connecting you to appropriate college resources. Peer Supporters do not provide therapy.
You can bring anything that’s troubling you to a Peer Support session. You can expect to be heard in an open, safe, non-judgmental space and have the opportunity to let your feelings out. Peer Support sessions are completely confidential unless the student is a danger to themselves, others, or there is suspected abuse or neglect involving a minor.
Booking with a Peer Supporter is completely free, there is no payment required.
