Jan Edwards is a two-time proud graduate of Centennial College, a former staff member, and a dedicated advocate for lifelong alumni engagement in higher education. With a strong background in academic operations, student success, and community building, she brings both professional expertise and personal connection to her role on the Alumni Advisory Committee.
Jan was inspired to join the Committee by her belief in the lasting value of alumni engagement and the important role alumni play in shaping student experience, institutional reputation, and future direction. Having experienced Centennial College as both a student and staff member, she has seen firsthand the impact of a connected and supportive college community. In her current role as Manager of Academic Operations and Administration for the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law at Queen’s University, she actively develops alumni engagement opportunities through mentorship, guest speaking, professional development, and community-building initiatives. This alignment between her professional work and the Committee made the opportunity especially meaningful.
Her vision for the Committee is to help strengthen a more connected and inclusive alumni community where graduates continue to feel engaged long after convocation. She is particularly passionate about expanding mentorship opportunities, alumni storytelling, and meaningful networking between students and graduates. Jan also hopes to support initiatives that ensure alumni from all backgrounds and career stages feel represented, valued, and connected to Centennial.
Jan’s education at Centennial College played a foundational role in shaping her career path. The College’s hands-on, student-centred approach helped her build confidence, communication skills, and a strong appreciation for applied learning. These experiences continue to influence her leadership style and her commitment to inclusive, community-focused education.
A key milestone in her career has been leading academic and student operations in a large, fully online graduate program at Queen’s University, where she has developed alumni engagement initiatives such as mentorship programs, speaker series, and storytelling opportunities. She has also remained closely connected to Centennial as a part-time adjunct instructor and former Success Advisor, further deepening her commitment to student support and engagement.
Jan encourages students and graduates to stay curious, build relationships, and remain connected to their college community. She believes alumni networks offer lifelong value through mentorship, collaboration, and professional growth. For Jan, staying connected is about belonging, giving back, and strengthening a community that continues to shape future success.
