Course Orientation

A well-structured orientation equips students with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in the course. For many, the digital learning environment may be unfamiliar, making it essential to provide clear guidance, resources, and support from the outset.

The purpose of an orientation is to create a welcoming entry point where students are introduced to the key elements of the course. In Luminate courses, the Course Essentials – Start Here orientation module contains core components to help you guide students effectively. These include: instructor information, communication methods with both the instructor and peers, the course outline, objectives and assessments, expectations and timelines, navigation guidance, required technological, academic, and institutional tools, relevant policies, and other resources to support student success.

For detailed instructions on accessing and adding this module to your course shell, visit Using the Course Development Template.
