Apprenticeship is a system of learning by doing. It consists of on-the-job training with an employer and related class studies in college. The on-the-job training is a competency-based format program which involves completing of a Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development-issued booklet. Classes are offered either one day a week, two nights a week or eight weeks a year. Depending on your trade, class programs could take two to three years. Apprenticeships vary in length from two to five years. (The actual length depends on the trade you've chosen, and how quickly you learn on-the-job competencies.)
Centennial College also offers Modified Apprenticeship Programs (MAPs) which include alternative in-school and on-the-job delivery methods. See the Modified Apprenticeship Programs (MAP) section for further details.
