Semesters and phases run consecutively with no formal breaks. A short break takes place from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.
Training hours
Students need to be available between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
When needed, training may also be scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday in order to make up for bad weather days (when flying is not possible).
What does this mean?
Flight training programs need to take advantage of good weather conditions, which means that the majority of training activities are scheduled to allow for this (which may result in non-training days during the week).
For example
- Ground school (theory) training may be scheduled later in the day through an online class so that flying or simulator time can be done during the day.
- If flight or simulator training is cancelled during the week because of bad weather trainees would have this time off, however those training hours would need to be completed on a weekend to make up the time and keep on track.
Program provides 1000 hours of training, which includes: 750 hours of ground school, 262 hours of actual flight training and another 200 hours as a flight crew member. Weather is a critical factor in training and can delay student progress and completion of the program.
All training is run from the Peterborough Airport at the Canadian Flight Academy building (400 Tailwind Drive, Peterborough, ON).
All courses can be found in the Courses section on the Canadian Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence (CIATPL) program webpage.
Yes, you must successfully complete all of the courses shown on the program webpage.
No. This is a full-time, 2-year, 3-semester, 9-phase program. The majority of ground school is delivered online and the flight activity training (simulator and aircraft) is delivered in-person, on site at the Peterborough Airport training facility.
It is recommended that students do not attempt to hold full or part-time jobs, as program training activities cannot be scheduled to accommodate their work timetable.
Students should be available for training activities (online, simulator or flight) between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., up to 5 days a week. If necessary, flight training may be scheduled on a weekend to make-up for bad weather days.
Tuition covers all ground school and flight hours as noted in the program model route, which includes extra hours allotted for flight time.
Should a student require additional training over and above what is included in the program model route, they will be invoiced directly by the flight school and are responsible to pay all costs associated with the additional training.
No. The program tuition is broken into 4 payment periods, which are scheduled to provide students with sufficient time in-between to obtain the necessary funds.
Estimated tuition costs and payment timelines are posted on the program's webpage.
The program is not covered by OSAP and at this time there are no scholarships, grants or bursaries that are available for the CIATPL program. It is suggested that applicants ensure that they have the means to cover the costs before starting the program.
To assist with tuition, you may want to look into options to use RESP funds or discuss other financing or student loan options that may be available through your financial institution/banking facility. Note it is suggested that you connect with a bank early as it may take 6-8 weeks to complete the financial assistance application process.
For Private Pilot Licence (PPL) holders, the maximum credit a valid PPL licence holder may obtain is up to 30 hours (applicable to semester 1 flight time only); however, they are required to successfully complete all program ground school training.
For Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) holders, in accordance with Transport Canada regulations, individuals who already hold a Commercial Pilot License are not eligible to enrol in an integrated flight training program.
No, Gradation Certificates are only issued to those students that have successfully completed the whole program. If you are interested in getting your Private or Commercial Licence only, you should connect with the Canadian Flight Academy, to enquire about their Modular Training Options.
International applicants must apply directly to Centennial College’s International Education department. Further information can be found under the How to Apply section of the program webpage.

Medical Frequently Asked Questions
A Category 1 (CAT 1) Aviation Medical must be obtained to progress and remain in the program. You may however start the program with a Category 4 (CAT 4) Aviation Medical, while you are waiting to receive your Category 1 Medical Certificate from Transport Canada (TC).
You will be required to pay a fee to obtain an aviation medical, so it is suggested that you wait until you have confirmed your seat offer.
- If you have a CAT 1, then you do not need any other Medical Certification
- If you have already applied for the CAT 1, then you can not apply for the CAT 4
- If you have not applied for a medical yet, you should apply for the CAT 4 first, wait 7-10 days and then apply for the CAT 1
A CAT 4 certificate allows you to start your program and flight training activities, including completing solo flight time while you are waiting to receive your CAT 1. Complete the Category 4 Declaration for Licences and Permits Form and send it to Transport Canada at aviation.ont@tc.gc.ca.
A CAT 1 certificate requires you to complete a physical medical examination, which is conducted by a TC approved CAME and the results are submitted to TC. The issue of the certificate from Transport Canada can take anywhere from 4 to 16 weeks and without a medical you won't be able to fly. Visit the Standard 424 Appendix II - Limitations and Restrictions which may appear on a Permit, Licence or Medical Certificate to learn what’s covered by the Category 1 Medical Examination.
For further information about obtaining either certificate, contact your local Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME). Visit Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAME) Search to find your local Civil Aviation Medical Examiner.
You can find a Transport Canada (TC) CAME through the Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAME) Search.
- Domestic Students: Find an approved CAME through the Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAME) Search
- When searching, select Canada, Ontario and All Cities.
- International Students: Find an approved CAME in your home country through the Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAME) Search. To ensure that your TC issued CAT 1 Medical Certificate is received in time for you to start your training, request that it be sent to you at the following address:

If you have already received your TC issued Medical Certificate, you can send a copy to CIATPL8119@centennialcollege.ca. Be sure to include your full name, student number and the start date (e.g. Fall 2027) of your program.
