Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

How does PLAR work?

PLAR assesses what you know and can do against the learning outcomes of specific Centennial College courses.

Depending on the course, assessments may include:

  • A portfolio demonstrating your previous learning and experience.
  • Written or practical assessments.
  • Demonstrations of skills or knowledge.
  • Other assessments determined by the academic department.

Successful PLAR assessments may allow you to receive credit for eligible courses, reducing the number of courses you need to complete.

PLAR is not automatic. Previous learning must be assessed, and not all courses or programs are eligible. Admission requirements and any professional or regulatory requirements must still be met.
