As a student at Centennial, there’s a chance you’re not from the area, and are spending the holidays away from family. Whatever holiday you celebrate, it can be tough to spend it away from home. You may be missing your family, friends and traditions, but there are plenty of fun things you can do to feel better. Here are a just a few ideas to help make the season a little more cheerful:
Explore the city
If you’re willing to brave the cold and the snow, it’s the perfect time to explore the city and all it has to offer. While living in a new city or country, it is good to see and experience the place you’re in. Whether you want to get dinner, go to a holiday market, or just see the sights, you can find a variety of activities around Toronto. There are drive-in movies, outdoor skating rinks, winter markets, and much more. These activities may help you feel more excited about the season. Visit BlogTO to find out about activities happening in the city.
Order in a holiday meal
Experience the city through the many restaurants that offer holiday menus, many of whom now provide delivery and take-out. Here are a few places that specifically offer holiday meals to go.
Have a virtual gathering with friends or family
You may not be physically together this holiday season, but you can still have fun by getting together with your family, friends and classmates through a virtual gathering. If there’s one thing the pandemic has helped us learn, it’s how to use Zoom, FaceTime, and other software to connect remotely, and to socialize from afar (and if you don’t know, here’s a handy guide). You can incorporate your traditions, and even start new ones with others who are away from home as well. Speaking of that…
Keep traditions alive, and decorate your space
Celebrate the holidays by doing something you typically would do at home. This will help you keep some normalcy at this special time of year. Whether it’s decorating your space, putting up lights, lighting candles, or engaging in the traditions you had back home, you can bring the holiday spirit alive no matter where you are.
