Getting around the city

Getting around in this beautiful city is not difficult. There are many ways to explore Toronto: you can walk, bike, and of course, take the TTC.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is Toronto’s public transit that operates buses, subways, and streetcars in Toronto. Some basics to get you started:

  • You can pay your TTC fare with exact cash, a token or a pass. For prices, click here.
  • If you will be changing buses (or sometimes even trains), be sure to take a transfer at the point of payment.
  • Do the math: it may be cheaper to purchase a monthly metropass, if you use the TTC every day. As a student of Centennial College, you qualify to the discounted Post Secondary Student Metropass (currently $116.75). For more details visit their webpage.
  • See more information from the CCSAI on getting student discounts while using public transit.
  • Another way to use public transportation is by having a Presto card. This is especially useful if you may be using other transit systems, such as GO Transit, in addition to the TTC. The Presto card allows you to load money and tap the Presto machines as you board the bus or train. To get more information, click here.
  • It’s always good to plan your trip before you leave. Use the TTC’s Trip Planner, which will outline how to get to your destination, including bus numbers and timings. If you have any doubts, feel free to ask the driver.
