Ronni Rosenberg recently joined our team of instructors for our online Graphic Design program to teach the course Creativity in Context. “It is striking that Centennial had the foresight to create this online program in advance of and apart from pandemic considerations. It creates access for people with all kinds of diverse circumstances and locales to participate in first-rate graphic design education,” she shares.
After working in the magazine industry for several years as a designer, Ronni went back to school to become an architect. She explains that she was always interested in design as a broad discipline, as it encompasses many aspects. “I was always interested in art, and as a kid wanted to do graphic design, as well as architecture. I ended up doing both."
Before arriving at Centennial, Ronni worked at Sheridan College for many years and most recently took on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. After retiring in 2020, she shares, “I was familiar with folks at Centennial and always admired the department and, of course, the legendary Story Arts Centre building, designed by Peter Dickinson.”
Now teaching within the program, she has a great appreciation for the way the program is orchestrated. “First, let me say that Program [Coordinator] Lisa Rebnord is outstanding and a lot of the online course material that I believe she largely had a hand in designing is great. Faculty are particularly collaborative.”
Examining the graphic design industry, Ronni has insightful advice for students and those entering this industry. She shares, “Graphic design is an expanding discipline that is now encompassing more than the printed page or a single device screen. Designers need to look at the larger environment to fully take in the reach of ‘graphic design.’ Our urban environments are increasingly media-saturated.”
The School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design proudly welcomes Ronni to the Graphic Design program, as her expertise is greatly contributing to preparing students to enter this industry.
