Indigenous Reconciliation and Healing (The Eighth Fire)

Centennial College’s Indigenous Strategic Framework (ISF) provides a unique outline for reconciliation and healing within the institution requiring the embrace and reflection of post-colonial ways of seeing and doing. The ISF consists of four overarching goals: Strengthen Our Responsiveness, Respectful Learning Environments for Indigenous Community Engagement, Increase Indigenous Learner Success, Develop Research, Scholarship and PD Initiatives, and Transitions to Employment.

This ambitious undertaking, created in collaboration with a number of internal and external Indigenous community members over several years, is being rolled out through strategic hires, extensive coordination, collaboration and consultation.  We were recognized on a national level by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICAN), for the relational work we have been developing, implementing, and collaborating on with our Indigenous communities, with a Gold medal for Indigenous Education Excellence in 2016.

Under the guidance of Aboriginal Traditionalists and the Aboriginal Education Council (AEC) working alongside the Aboriginal Education Steering Committee (AESC), we have been provided with a pathway to implement the Framework.
