Facilitated through the College’s Career Services and Co-operative Education department, the Career Resilience initiative takes a strengths-based, holistic approach to help you foster career resilience. Its tools are beneficial whether you are just beginning your job search, launching your career or are already employed.
Today’s graduates need to be able to anticipate career shifts, manage uncertainty and be forward-thinkers, according to the Canadian Career Development Foundation. Such an attitude requires building career resilience.
Career resilience is being able to recover, adapt and transform in the face of challenging career situations, such as job search disappointments, job loss, career uncertainty, and challenging workplaces. In order to be resilient, we need to use and build up our internal resources, such as optimism, flexibility, self-awareness, and purpose, as well as have available and use external resources, such as supportive relationships, career services, and community programs.
Centennial College’s Career Resilience initiative has been designed to help you move beyond the mechanics of the job search (think resume workshops, mock interviews, job search skills) to the mental side of your career journey. Cultivating a more resilient mindset is essential in being successful at every stage of your career.
