Weather Related Emergencies

Severe Weather (Tornado, Hurricane, Ice Storm, etc.)

In the event of a severe weather event take the following action

  • Seek shelter in the best location to help minimize exposure
  • Remain calm and avoid panic
  • Areas of safety – rooms and corridors in the innermost part of the building
  • Areas to avoid – stay clear of windows, corridors and rooms with windows
  • Do not use elevators
  • Close all doors, including main corridors, making sure they latch
  • Crouch near the floor or under heavy, well-supported objects and cover your head
  • Be alert for fire

Inclement Weather

Weather and road conditions are continually monitored by Life Safety and Security Services. When these conditions are so extreme that the College deems it necessary to suspend normal operations the Suspension of Normal Operations Procedures will be followed. Where possible, these decisions will be made by 6:30 a.m. for daytime classes and by 3 p.m. for evening classes. Please see the Suspension of Normal Operations Procedures for further details. 

Seismic Event

In the event of a seismic event such as an earthquake, tremor or aftershocks take the following action

  • Seek shelter in the best location to help minimize your exposure
  • If indoors, seek refuge under a desk or table. Stay away from glass windows and shelving units
  • If outdoors, quickly move away from buildings, utility poles and other structures. Avoid power lines, never touch a downed power line
  • If in an automobile, stop in the safest place and remain in the vehicle
  • After the initial shock, evaluate the situation and if emergency help is required, call 911 and emergency Ext. 52020 or 416-439-4357
  • Damaged College facilities should be reported to Security at Ext. 52020

  • Do not use elevators
